The focus of the band is all about music making, whether it is in a contest or concert, we strive to perform at the height of our ability at all times as one team.
We rehearse once a week on Thursdays from 7:45-10pm at the Trinity URC Church, on the corner of Orford Road and West Avenue, Walthamstow, London.
We are a 5 minute walk from Walthamstow Central Rail/Tube/Bus Station.
East London Brass is a contesting brass band based in Walthamstow, conducted by Jayne Murrill.
Whilst researching the band’s history we discovered (via the British Bandsman archives in Northampton) that the band pre-dates 1900 and is one of theoldest bands in London. Early records show that in 1902 the band competed in the Championship section (the premiership of Brass Bands) as Walthamstow Silver Band. The complicated and overlapping history means we have adopted 1909 as a common ancestral date for the formation of the band.
The band has played at a number of prestigious and interesting concerts over the years including performance art appearances, concerts from the Minstrels’ Gallery of London’s Guildhall and the central Masonic Lodge and at a festival of the music of John Ireland in Chelsea.
Jayne has been conducting the band since 2007, leading ELB to victory at the Butlins National Mineworkers Contest and regional Area Contest for two years in succession and seeing the band promoted from 2nd Section to Championship Section Status in 2011. Jayne is also the longest serving member of the band having joined in 1982. Jayne is a freelance trombonist working with the UK’s top orchestras. She is also a member of Bones Apart trombone quartet.
